GODNA ART & CRAFT
Funded by: Ministry of Textiles, Government of India
Status: Completed (2016-17)
Godna is a traditional body tattooing art form prevalent amongst the tribes of central India. The art form has seen decline in its application in contemporary times and SAK Foundation along with Godna Artists have been working to preserve the art form.

Through this project, SAK Foundation conducted training and skill upgradation program of Godna artisans in the Udaipur and Lakhanpur block of Surguja District. The organisation undertook market survey, intelligence gathering and test marketing, modifications, etc before launching the project. The trainings were delivered by the Master Trainers of Godna art form and were supported by designers who helped design Godna on textile as per the market requirements.

The products were also showcased by the state handicraft department in various exhibitions. The participants were also compensated for their daily participation. The project played a major role in upgrading the skills of Godna artisans as well as diversifying their art form by painting it on textiles. This initiative also helped preserve the cultural significance of the Godna art form.
