WELFARE PROGRAM FOR WORKING CHILDREN

Funded by: Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India

Status: Completed (2016-17)

Surguja district has a large number of children engaged in informal work ranging from daily wage labour to working in hotels. SAK Foundation identified 100 such children in Ambikapur block and persuaded their guardians to send them to Special School for Working Children, established in Khala, Teejapara, Batauli and Ambikapur. These special schools provided free elementary education and vocational skill training to build their capacity for employment.
Many students were further re-integrated into the Government Schools in their nearby villages.
